The Ohio State University Medical Center offers minimally invasive surgical treatment options for the repair hernias.

  • Inguinal (groin) is the most common type of hernia.  An inguinal hernia develops when an area of the abdominal wall is weakened for some reason and tissue bulges through an opening, which requires surgical treatment.
  • Ventral Hernias typically develop in the abdominal wall at the sight of previous incisions or around the belly button, but can occur in other areas of the abdominal wall.
  • Paraesophageal/Hiatal hernias develop when your stomach slides up and out of your abdominal cavity into the chest cavity.  Common symptoms of this type of hernia includes heartburn, reflux and/or chest pain.
Visit the following pages within this section that detail the surgical procedures used to treat the conditions noted above.
