
The CMIS will sponsor advanced training programs in multiple areas, including Minimally Invasive General & Gastrointestinal Surgery, Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal Surgery, and a specialized post/doctoral research position. All of these programs are designed to provide the highest level of training in the advanced techniques of minimally invasive surgery, preparing trainees for future clinical practice, research, and teaching. The program director is a full-time faculty member of the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Teaching faculty are fully trained, experienced surgeons with a depth of experience in the application of minimally invasive surgery.
Advanced training programs are available in the following areasOne year advanced training in Minimally Invasive Surgery with concentration on development of advanced clinical skills in minimally invasive surgery. A one-year advanced training position is also offered in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal Surgery, with concentration on the development of advanced endoscopic surgical skills, including extensive training in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography and other endoscopic therapies. All trainees participate in the ongoing research projects of the Center and develop teaching skills in minimally invasive surgery by acting as teaching assistants to course faculty for junior residents and visiting surgeon training courses.
Applicants must have completed a General Surgery residency program approved by the ACGME and the American Board of Surgery. Applicants must be Board eligible or Board certified at the commencement of the fellowship year.
One year research position in minimally invasive general and gastrointestinal surgery for those individuals wishing to participate in ongoing Center projects. Clinical or basic science research proposals must be approved by the Center Research Committee and approved prior to the start of the research year.
A doctoral degree in appropriate discipline is required (M.D. or Ph.D.).
